The Three Major Conditions Faced By The Timber Industry
- May 31, 2018 -

With the rapid development of various domestic industries, the demand for wood has risen sharply. Although the domestic demand for wood continues to grow, the supply of timber is far from keeping up with the domestic demand in the face of bans and supply gaps in timber exporting countries.

Increased demand

With the rapid development of various industries, the timber market ushered in an unprecedented "stockout." Wood-based panels, doors, furniture and other products use wood as a raw material. China's wood products are relatively inexpensive and have a guaranteed quality. They not only meet domestic needs, but also are loved by international consumers. They are found in over 100 countries in Asia, North America, and Europe. Imported wood products from China ranks among the top in the world. Such a huge demand is one of the reasons that led to the shortage of supply in the timber market. Coupled with the increase in the functional, design, space utilization, and personalization requirements of furniture products, the acceptance of the whole house custom market has been increasing year by year.

Increased imports

According to relevant data, log imports from the 4.471 million cubic meters in 1997 increased to 487.247 million cubic meters in 2016, an increase of 9.9 times; sawwood imports from the 1.325 million cubic meters in 1997, increased to 3151.27 in 2016 10,000 cubic meters, an increase of 22.79 times

Raw material prices

The tension in raw materials and the continuous escalation of environmental protection policies undoubtedly caused pressure on China's timber merchants. Affected by such factors as environmental protection improvement, supply shortages, and rising labor costs, the trend of China's timber price index in 2017 generally showed an upward trend.
