What is Composite Planter Pots?
Composite planters are made from a synthetic combination of stone, plastic, or glass fibers with a bonding agent–usual a natural resin. The mixture is blended and molded into objects with limitless shapes and sizes. The result is a highly durable material that lasts much longer than traditional wood or plastic alone. Due to their versatile appearance and low maintenance requirements, many commercial, government, and residential decision-makers choose composite planters to improve the aesthetic of their outdoor gardens, indoor lobbies, and public spaces while saving money on landscaping costs.
Advantages of Composite Planter Pots
Easy to customize style and shape
Composite planters are shaped using a mold that can be custom made to produce a line of unique products. Have been designed to suit different applications from sleek modern to corporate simplicity.
Improved drainage
Overwatering can make your plants susceptible to harmful fungal and bacterial growth. Especially in areas with heavy rain. Composite containers are easy to drill with new drainage holes. Easily adding drainage holes will help your plants and flowers receive just enough water to keep them healthy.
Protection from the elements
Most composite materials, including fiberglass and stone, are frost-proof and weather-resistant, making them ideal for outdoor gardens. Your composite planter box will not crack or rot, even as the changes in temperature expand and contract the soil inside your planter.
Durability
Your reputation, brand image, and future profits are all on the line with a less-than-perfect planter display, and yet not having such a display leaves your business looking life-less and cold, trailing behind the rest in the public eye.

Resin
Resin is a strong and lightweight material made from plastic or, in our case, from non-plastic linear low-density polyethylene (LLDP). Using LLDP resin in the production process has many benefits for both the customer and their plants. We use this high grade and eco-friendly ingredient to bind composites like fiberglass to form a flawless plante–strong, flexible, lightweight, and with a surface that exudes professionalism.Although it is commonly mistaken for regular plastic, these planters are made from low-density polyethylene, which is much more durable and resistant to rot.In terms of aesthetics, resin is one of the most versatile materials. Depending on your visual preferences, resin can be made to look like shiny plastic or textured concrete.
GFRC
Glass fiber reinforced concrete, or GFRC, is a wonderful eco-friendly option for your garden. This is because it takes less energy to manufacture than other materials and is made from relatively-sustainable materialsSince GFRC is strong, its panels are usually thin. Therefore it has a much lighter weight than planters made of concrete alone. The glass components can give the material a more sleek, modern look that will appeal to many gardeners, while the concrete provides strength and durability.
Fiberstone
Fiberstone (also known as fiber stone) outdoor planters are another great choice for outdoor gardens. Visually, this material does not have the same level of gloss finish as GFRC planters, so if you prefer a more textured aesthetic, fiberstone might be the right planter box for you.Along with stone and fiberglass, materials such as sand and clay are also used to add weight and strength to the planter. While these planters are just as strong as GFRC, be careful because the larger the size, the harder it is to move these planters around. Like other composite planters, they can handle temperature variances and inclement weather conditions without corroding or cracking. But due to the presence of heavy stone, if you plan to move your large planter inside in the winter months or make the occasional re-arrangement, you might want to choose a more lightweight material, like fiberglass.
Fiberglass
Our favorite composite planter boxes are made with fiberglass. This material is made from spun glass fiber which is reinforced with resin. It is an extremely lightweight and versatile material. There are so many advantages to keeping your flowers in fiberglass outdoor planters. Like other composite materials, they are durable and you will never have to worry about rot or rust, even as the weather changes from season to season. However, unlike other composite planter boxes made from stone, fiberglass planters are less likely to produce fissures in freezing weather and therefore can maintain a flawless finish.Because of their lighter weight, fiberglass planters are easy to move around, but care must be taken in severe weather so they do not fall over with a gust of wind. Adding rocks and potting soil to the bottom of your planter (as you normally would with any planter) is one easy solution to this problem.Fiberglass is also available in a wide range of styles due to the versatility of fiberglass material. New molds are easily created to meet the demand of ever-changing consumer trends. Likewise, these planter boxes can be painted to match any color scheme or aesthetic.
What Make Composite Decking Safe For Planter Pots
Free from harmful chemicals
Composite decking boards are safe for use as garden beds. The boards do not contain any chemicals that are harmful to the environment. The manufacturers created composite decking with non toxic materials that include reclaimed wood fibres and recycled plastics that would normally end up in landfill sites.
During production of composite decking boards no harmful or dangerous chemicals are used, giving you peace of mind that that any items including your decking area are safe to use by your friends and family including pets.
Eco friendly
Composite decking is classed as a environmentally safe product that wont pollute the land or affect the soil. It is regarded as an eco-friendly building material that can safely be used to make garden beds and other items for growing flowers, plants and vegetables
Resistant to rot
Unlike wood, that will experience damage from water or moisture, garden beds or planters made from composites will be resistant to rot and decay. This means they will keep their appearance and last longer with a regular cleaning schedule. Composites are not susceptible to rot or decay damage since they are produced using HDPE plastics, which provides added protect against weathering and other natural elements. It is the perfect building material for garden beds and planters.
Resistant to insects
Composites are also resistant to wood eating insects. Insects can damage wooden planters but wont penetrate wood-plastic composites. This means any garden beds or planters made from composites wont get eaten by any insects and wont need replacing for a long time.
Does not leach chemicals into the soil
Wood plastic composites (WPC) wont leach chemicals into the ground. Unlike CCA pressure-treated wood that can leach harmful chemicals into the soil, WPC is safe for use as garden beds and planters. No harmful or toxic chemicals will affect flowers, plants or vegetables.
Composite planter kits are available in various sizes. Unlike the DIY method, the composite planter kits are easy to set up without using any tools. Most of these kits contain manufacturer instructions on how to assemble them. If yours does not come with a manual, follow the simple steps below.
Get the kit ready
Get a planter kit from a garden centre, and make sure you purchase one based on the size of your garden bed. The kits usually contain a grid base and an aeration sheet to promote proper air circulation.
Assemble the base
Assemble the base of your raised garden bed by laying out the grids and pushing them together. Manufacturers make the grids in square segments that make it simple for you to fasten them together. If your kit comes with an aeration sheet, place the sheet on the grids.
Install vertical corner posts
Start installing the corner posts by fastening each post to the corners of the base grid. When installing the post, ensure the holes are positioned inwards to hold the boards in place.
Fill it with soil
Now that you have completed the composite garden bed, fill it with soil and start planting.

Why Use Composite Decking to Create Your Planter
Planters made with decking have become a popular trend. Not only can you use leftover material to create them, meaning you have zero waste, but they also match perfectly with your garden aesthetic.Using composite material extends the longevity of the planters’ service life whilst remaining low maintenance and resilient against the elements.Composite decking is also resistant to insects meaning less damage is caused over time which ensures less time and money spent on repairs.

Get the materials ready
Firstly, gather all the materials you will need to make the planters with composite decking. The materials you will need to make the size of the planter you have decided upon. You will also need tools such as a power or manual drill, screws, screwdriver, handsaw, measuring tape, and base material. Once you have all the materials needed, you can now start building your planter.
Lay down the base
Start by laying down the base of your planter. The base should be a grid base or lattice base. This will allow for an easy flow of water, and it will also promote air circulation.
Create the holes
Using a measuring tape, calculate the length of the composite board and cut it to your preferred size with a handsaw. After cutting the boards to size, use a manual or power drill to make pilot holes in two of the decking boards. The pilot holes will keep the composite decking from cracking when you insert a screw in it. Make three pilot holes on two of the shorter boards. Create these holes from the end edge of the board.
Fasten the boards
Attach the boards with galvanised screws. Galvanised screws are suitable for planters; they won’t rust when exposed to air and moisture. Then, line the boards up so that you can position the pilot holes on the outside corners. Using a power or manual drill to fasten the screws to the boards. If you don’t have a drill, use a screwdriver instead.
Attach the boards
Place the grid base inside the planter. Use a drill or a screwdriver and screws to fasten the grid base to the planter box. The grid base is important if you intend to put the planter on your decking or balcony. Once you’ve attached the grid or lattice base to the planter box, your composite decking planters are ready.
Fill it with soil
Now that you have finished making your composite decking planters, it’s time to fill them with soil. Fill the planter with your garden soil. Now you are ready to start planting.
